DIY Auto Body Repair… Hit a truck w/ trailer hitch..?
I recently rear-ended a truck with a trailer hitch. His car was unharmed, but my car sustained all the damage. Since my insurance company can’t do anything except raise my rates if I report it, I’d like to try to fix this myself before taking it somewhere for a costly repair.
I drive a 2007 Ford Focus (and it’s basically made of plastic, just so you future car buyers know). The hitch punctured my bumper and bent the steel bar in front of my radiator. I’m going to be able to fix the bumper myself, I have a friend who’s able to do that for me, but I need to figure out if its possible to fix the steel bar. Because it is bent, my hood doesn’t close properly because the hook it closes in is bent slightly downwards.
Is there ANYTHING I can do to fix this without having to take it to a costly repair shop? Any advice would be helpful!
Thank you in advance!
Tie a rope to the bent bar and a tree or telephone pole and slowly back up (and I really mean slowly) until it is bent back where you want it.
Have someone watch the bar for you because you don’t want to bend it too far.
If you go to far get a big hammer and you know the rest.
Also there are some adjustments to the latch.

3M Imperial Wetordry Sheet, 9 in x 11 in, Grade 800, Pack of 5 Sheets $4.29 Primarily used for block hand sanding, 3M WetorDry sandpaper has a more aggressive cut than production paper of the same grade. The ability to use it with water provides several advantages: Water acts as a lubricant, allowing for better cutting with less effort. The use of water also makes the sanding process dustless and helps keep the abrasive surface cleaner, especially when using finer grit… |
