diy car camera rig

When it comes to home security, some individuals look at it as a DIY affair. They may do something that’s simply ineffective, such as trying to install their own security system without the requisite knowledge of how it’s properly done; something comical, such as using “spy tech” devices available from many online stores; or something remarkably dangerous, such as rigging one’s property with “booby traps” to catch or injure unwary prowlers. There are several different reasons these are all bad ideas.
Installing one’s own alarm system is made tempting by two misconceptions: one, the discount alarm systems available at home-improvement stores are as effective as professional alarms; two, that installing an alarm simply takes carpentry skills. Professionally-installed alarms are of a much higher quality than the discount models. Their monitors are hard to defeat and they’re connected to a call-center that ensures a response; not just a wailing siren. Installing an alarm takes experience and knowledge dealing with criminals. If you don’t know how to defeat an alarm, you don’t know how to install one.
Spy-tech is a fun hobby. Many of the devices are amazing little gadgets that allow a room to be monitored for less than $100. There are audio monitors and video monitors, heat-sensing cameras and other gadgets that ooze “gee-whiz” goodness. They’re hobby-level devices, however. They can be fun for playing around but they should not be relied upon to provide real security. Remember that, if one of these devices fails, you stand to suffer a great deal of property loss and damage. These devices also require constant monitoring to be effective which is something even the most dedicated aficionado cannot provide. Many of these devices advertise the same technology used in professional security devices, which is akin to saying a foreign sports car and a child’s wagon have a great deal in common because they both have wheels.
Booby-trapping a house is a genuinely bad—even stupid—idea. Putting raised nails in windowsills, tripwires around the yard, or devices designed to cause serious injury is illegal in most places. Remember, a thief may well try to break into your window some night, but a fireman may also need to crawl through that window for very different reasons. The person snared by your tripwire may well be a police officer chasing down a thief. Never install a device that doesn’t discriminate between friend and foe. It doesn’t provide security; it poses a very real threat to everyone.
The best blend of technology and impenetrability is provided by monitored alarm systems. They have all the technology a spy-tech fan could want, will provide a means of rigging a house that is much more secure than any booby-trap—and which won’t injure the good guys—and which is monitored around the clock by professionals who have a plan, in addition to the equipment to put it into action. Do yourself and everyone around you a favor and let a professional install your security system for you.
