How to tint car windows DIY style?

Hi folks
I have heard of a tint for car windows you can buy and put on yourself.Has anyone ever tried it and if so,how did it turn out?I’m just wondering how easy it is to do it by yourself.

Yep, done it before. Got awesome results on a 1990 Eagle Talon (2-door).

Go to hardware store and they have kits that include a roll of film, some solution, and sometimes other stuff like a mini-squeegee. It is possible to do it as well as the pros, but you have to take your time and be aware of the tricky parts.

Tips:
- the most common mistake is to neglect squeezing out the bubbles; you need a high-quality squeegee (rubber edge); move in some sort of organized fashion so you cover the whole surface area with your movement
- the “solution” in the kits is usually nothing more than soapy water (mild detergent); you can sometimes make your own
- film is usually rated according to how much light passes through (25%, 15%, 10%, etc)… your local laws have a minimum pass-through rating; if you overdo it, you could get ticketed
- certain areas are tricky and the film will get “chafed”, so take care to extend film well below sills, etc
- removing windows, if possible, takes more time, but may allow an even higher quality job
- read all instructions in the kit before starting
- buy medium to high quality film; low quality stuff fades, stretches, delaminates, etc
