Good deal on this truck?

It’s a 2001 Dodge Ram 1500, 5.9 L engine, with 91,000 miles.

I test drove it and it drives great, has no major body damage, and the inside is practically immaculate.

It has 2 doors and then 2 half doors.

The previous owner put in a customer exhaust system, raised it with custom shocks, and also put in custom air intake system and a new stereo/CD player. All of that was professionally done, not DIY, so it was obviously well taken care of.

Anyways, it was priced at 13,000 but the dealership will knock off 4,000 (my dad just bought a brand new car there and so they gave him a coupon), putting it around $9,000.

I love the truck and the way it drives and the fact that it was taken care of by the previous owner and not just trashed, but I just wanted some second opinions on if its a good deal.
Oh it also has brand new tires
And it’s a 4 wheel drive

This isn’t an easy question to answer, like “should I drive to work in reverse?” is. You did a great job describing it, but even so, the people who answered would have to personally look it over to say for sure. Generally, if it’s that old, you have to be wary. The miles aren’t too bad considering 8-9 years. Good engine. Almost as good as a hemi infact. New tires? That’s very good. I don’t like quad-cabs so much (compared to crew), but they’re better than regular. Since the previous owner got all those custom jobs, it’s likely that he really did care for it. 4×4 is awesome.

My advice: research a car at another dealership that you can get for $7,000-$8,000 that you’d want, go to the dearship that has the ram, and negotiate for $7,000-8,000. When they balk, tell them (no, SHOW THEM) the info on the other car at the *other * dealership, and inform them you will get that car if they don’t lower the price. It’s a game, like poker. Don’t be afraid to stand up and start walking away. We’re in a recession, they’ll give you their first son if it’ll get you to buy their car. They likely paid about nothing for the truck, and every day that goes by with it still on their lot is more of their money down the drain. Seeing their only chance to get rid of it walk away is torture.

Again, you take a risk when buying used like that, but if you’re sure… I had a used 1994 Ram Quad 5.2L when I was 16 (from my father). Never failed me; had it for 11 years. Ram is a good vehicle. Good luck with that, and don’t hesitate to bluff.
